Caring for your farm-crafted holiday urns

November 10, 2022

Sheridan Nurseries’ farm-crafted Boxwood Beauty and Boxwood Winter Planter with Lights Christmas planter include live boxwood that are locally grown at Sheridan Nurseries’ Glen Williams Farm.

As a live plant, Boxwood will experience natural colour changes as the season cools and it transitions to a dormant state. Enjoy the natural beauty that the live broadleaf evergreen brings to your decor.

These farm-crafted planters are excellent decorative accents for the holiday season and the boxwood can be planted in your garden after the holidays or early spring to enjoy for seasons to come.

CARING FOR YOUR PLANTER DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON
  • To ensure your planter stays fresh all season, keep it well-watered and protected from harsh winds.
  • If bringing your planter indoors, you will need to transition inside over 2-3 days in a sheltered area to avoid shock from the temperature change.

ADDING YOUR BOXWOOD TO YOUR GARDEN AFTER THE HOLIDAYS

If the ground has yet to freeze, you can plant your planter this season.

  • When ready to plant, ensure the root ball is well watered and remove it from the pot.
  • Place the root ball in a hole, backfill it with soil, water well, and then cover it with mulch.
  • As soon as the ground thaws in spring, apply Parkwood® Transplanter
ADDING YOUR BOXWOOD IN THE SPRING

If you can’t plant right after Christmas or the ground has frozen, store the plant outside in a protected area, away from wind and sun.

  • Cover the pot with straw, mulch, or burlap to insulate the pot, preventing repetitive freeze and thaw cycles.
  • Make sure to plant in early spring and use Parkwood® Transplanter to establish strong roots.

Note: If you bring your planter inside and plan to plant the boxwood in your garden, keep it indoors for no longer than ten days and transition it back outdoors over 2-3 days in a cool sheltered area like a covered porch or garage.

Boxwood planted in the garden from Christmas planters will not be covered under the ‘Never Stop Growing Guarantee’ warranty.
